WELCOME TO THE ELKTON CHARTER SCHOOL WEBSITE

May/June 2016

What happened to the 2015-16 school year? It seems to have gone by so quickly! Don’t forget to check your newsletter and calendar for upcoming events. Students are travelling all over to engage in “real life” learning experiences. As I write this update I am at the Oregon Zoo with our High School seniors. I can tell you first hand that we have amazing students who represent us very well when we take them places! We are very proud to be able to have kids that behave well and are respectful. Field trips are a critical part to “engaging” student learning as they begin to apply the learning that they have engaged in. As summer approaches, enjoy a trip to a local museum, library, river or the beach and use that time to learn alongside your students. You will be surprised at how much they can share and how much they can learn!

As we look ahead to 2016-17 we are excited about our programs and educational opportunities here in Elkton. We have received a grant from the Oregon Department of Education to provide a pre-school this coming year. We are in the preliminary planning stages, but anticipate starting our service in the fall. We will also be offering our p-3 summer reading program in June and July. Look for information about both of these programs in the newsletter, on our website, and at the Elementary School!

Speaking of the website, we are in the process of developing a new format. We plan to roll it out in July or August. The homepage design will look relatively the same, but many of the links will be changed. We realize that it will take some time to learn how to navigate the new site, but know that the change will be worth it as we update and streamline it. We are interested in your feedback, so give us a call if you have thoughts or concerns.

Again, remember to check the calendars, website and newsletters for upcoming dates. The last week of school is packed with events and field trips. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact anybody at the schools. We would be glad to help you. As the year winds down we want to say what a pleasure it is to serve our community. Our school is a community effort that could not exist without the efforts of so many people. As a district we continue to look for ways to get better at teaching and learning. Our goal is to be great, not just good! We are committed to providing the best experience as possible. Enjoy the summer with your kids! We are already looking forward to another great year.

Go Elks!
